Soundbar installation Hobart
A soundbar is the single biggest improvement most people make to a television, and it is the job most often done badly. Mounted too high, cable left dangling, remote sensor blocked, and connected over the wrong HDMI port so it never plays the format it was bought for. We mount it, wire it, connect it properly and tune it before we leave.
- Bundled with TV mounting
- eARC checked, not assumed
- Remote sensor kept clear
What a professional soundbar install includes
A soundbar installation in Hobart covers six things: mounting the bar securely into wall structure, setting its height and offset so the television’s remote sensor stays clear, routing the cable to the standard you have chosen, connecting over the correct HDMI ARC or eARC port, configuring the television’s audio output so the bar actually receives the signal, and checking it with real content before we pack up.
Above or below the television?
Below, in almost every case. Dialogue is the reason people buy a soundbar, and dialogue sits in the centre channel. Placed below the screen the centre channel arrives at roughly seated ear height, which is where it was mixed to be heard. Placed above, it arrives over your head and you lose the clarity you paid for.
Above the screen is worth it in exactly one situation: a media unit or fireplace makes below physically impossible. If that is your room, we angle the bar down rather than leaving it firing at the opposite wall.

Brackets by brand
Soundbar mounting is not one job, it is several, because the brands do not agree on how a bar attaches to a wall.
- Samsung. Most Q-series bars ship with a paper template and a pair of wall brackets in the box. The template is accurate; the difficulty is that it assumes you can fix anywhere, which on a lath and plaster wall you cannot.
- Sonos. Arc and Beam use a proprietary Sonos wall mount sold separately. There is no keyhole on the chassis, so the bracket is not optional.
- LG. Generally keyhole slots on the rear of the chassis, which need accurate spacing and a level. Forgiving of small errors vertically, unforgiving horizontally.
- Bose. Smart Soundbar models use a dedicated bracket. The chassis is heavier than it looks and needs a stud fixing.
- JBL and budget brands. Usually simple keyholes, and usually the lightest bars, but the plastic around the keyhole is the weak point rather than the wall.
Hobart wall types and soundbars
A soundbar weighs a fraction of a television, which tempts people into using anchors. On Hobart’s older walls that is a mistake. Lath and plaster gives way under a cantilevered load in a way plasterboard does not, and a soundbar sits proud of the wall so the load is cantilevered by definition.

Bundle it with your TV mount
If you are mounting the television anyway, do the soundbar in the same visit. It is cheaper than two call-outs, and more importantly the two positions get set together. Fitting a soundbar after the television is already on the wall is how bars end up covering remote sensors.

Useful answers before the appointment.
Soundbar questions we answer on the phone every week, written down so you do not have to ask.
Below, in almost every case. Sound from below reaches you at close to ear height when seated and keeps the bar out of the screen bezel. Above the television only makes sense when a media unit makes below impossible, and it costs you dialogue clarity.
Most can, but not all use the same method. Some ship with a bracket in the box, some have keyhole slots that need a template, and some need a brand-specific bracket bought separately. Send us the model and we will confirm before the visit.
It can, and it is the most common complaint after a self-installed soundbar. The infrared receiver on most televisions sits low on the bezel, often centre or bottom right. We set the bar height and offset so the sensor stays clear.
For stereo and basic surround, standard ARC is enough. For uncompressed Dolby Atmos or DTS:X you need eARC on both the television and the soundbar, plus a cable rated for the bandwidth. We check what your gear supports rather than assuming.
Yes. A single HDMI run inside the wall cavity gives a fully concealed finish. On a lath and plaster wall that is more involved than on modern plasterboard, and we will tell you which yours is before quoting.
A wall-mounted soundbar on its own is usually 30 to 45 minutes including setup and a sound check. Bundled with a television mount it adds roughly 30 minutes to that visit rather than doubling it.
We carry brackets for the common brands and can supply one to suit. If your soundbar needs a proprietary bracket we will tell you the part before the visit so it is on hand rather than discovered on the day.
Not securely. A soundbar hung on adhesive strips or a no-drill fixing will eventually let go, and it takes the front baffle with it. In a rental we can fix into a stud and patch and paint the holes when you leave instead.
