Soundbar installation cost
What soundbar installation actually costs, what changes the price, and why almost nobody in Australia publishes a figure for it.
Soundbar installation is priced on three things: whether it is wall mounted or shelf placed, whether the cable is concealed in the wall or run in trunking, and whether it is bundled with a television mount. Bundling is materially cheaper, because most of a standalone job’s cost is the call-out.
Awaiting confirmation: the figures below are awaiting the business owner’s sign-off, so they show as placeholders rather than invented numbers. A published price the business will not honour is worse than no price.
What it costs in Hobart
| Service | What it covers | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Soundbar wall mount only | Mounted, levelled, connected and tuned | To be confirmed |
| Soundbar with a TV mount | Bundled with any TV mounting job | To be confirmed |
| Soundbar cable concealment | Single cable run inside the wall | To be confirmed |
| HDMI eARC troubleshooting | Call-out where the soundbar is already installed | To be confirmed |
What is included
- Wall construction assessed and framing located before drilling
- Bar mounted level, centred on the television rather than the wall
- Height and offset set so the remote sensor stays clear
- Connected over the correct HDMI ARC or eARC port
- Television audio output configured so the bar actually receives the signal
- Checked with real content before we leave
What pushes the price up
- In-wall cable concealment. One HDMI run inside the cavity. Simple on modern plasterboard, more involved on lath and plaster.
- Older wall construction. Locating and confirming irregular framing takes real time, and it is the difference between a 30 minute job and an hour.
- A new power outlet. Fixed wiring is licensed electrical work under AS/NZS 3000, so it is quoted separately and carried out by a licensed electrician.
- A proprietary bracket. Sonos and some Bose models need a specific part that has to be ordered rather than pulled off the van.
Why bundling is cheaper
Most of the cost of a small job is getting a qualified person to your door with the right tools. Once they are there and the drop sheets are down, adding a soundbar to a television mount is largely incremental time rather than a second job.
There is a quality argument too. Fitting the bar and the screen in one visit means both positions are set against each other, so the clearance is right and the bar does not end up covering the television’s infrared receiver. Retrofitting a bar under a screen that is already mounted is exactly how that happens.
The market context
Almost no Australian installer publishes soundbar pricing at all, and the marketplace platforms quote TV mounting only. For reference, Airtasker Hobart TV wall mounting page listed TV wall mounting in Hobart at $95 to $150 with a $120 median when checked on 2026-08-20. That is labour only and does not cover a soundbar, a bracket, cable concealment or any warranty.
When to do it yourself
Genuinely worth doing yourself: a bar sitting on a media unit, plugged into the ARC port. That is a five minute job and paying for it makes no sense.
Worth paying for: anything wall mounted on an older wall, anything with the cable going inside the wall, and anything where the HDMI side is already misbehaving. The full DIY sequence is here if you want to judge it for yourself, and the HDMI diagnostic is here.

A wall-mounted soundbar on its own is a short job, typically 30 to 45 minutes including setup and a sound check. Bundled with a television mount it adds far less than booking a second visit, because the travel and setup are already paid for.
Substantially, yes. Two thirds of the cost of a standalone soundbar job is getting someone to your door. Doing both in one visit also means the two positions get set together, which avoids the bar covering the remote sensor.
Three things: concealing the cable inside the wall rather than in trunking, older wall construction that needs the stud located and confirmed, and any new power outlet, which is licensed electrical work and priced separately.
Most carry brackets for common brands. Where a bar needs a proprietary mount, such as a Sonos Arc or Beam, that part usually has to be ordered specifically, so tell the installer the model when you book rather than on the day.
If it is sitting on a media unit, no, plug it in yourself. If it is going on the wall, the value is in the fixing holding long term and the HDMI side actually working, which is where most self-installs come unstuck.
